Publishing Services Policy
This policy explains how our professional publishing services work, including manuscript assessments, developmental editing, copyediting, proofreading, formatting and typesetting, cover design, eBook conversion and distribution assistance. Before any work starts, you sign a written publishing or service agreement that sets out the scope, price, payment milestones and timeline for your project. If anything in that agreement differs from this policy, the agreement applies, but neither can take away your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Last updated: [date of publication].
Packages and prices
Essentials Publishing Package: AUD $1,490. Includes 1 revision round.
Complete Publishing Package: AUD $3,490. Includes 2 revision rounds.
Signature Publishing Package: from AUD $11,900. Includes 3 revision rounds.
The exact inclusions for your project are listed in your agreement. Life Reclaimed Publishing is not registered for GST, so no GST is charged on our books, eBooks or publishing services, and our invoices are standard invoices rather than tax invoices. If we become registered for GST, we will update our prices and this policy before charging GST.
Your agreement
Every project starts with a written agreement describing what is included and excluded, the price, the payment milestones and an estimated timeline. Work begins once you have signed the agreement, approved the project scope and paid the deposit.
Deposit and milestone payments
Payments are made in three stages:
1. Deposit: 40% of the project price, paid when you sign the agreement and approve the project scope, before work starts.
2. Second payment: 30%, paid after the main editing or design milestone is completed and you have reviewed it. Your agreement names this milestone for your package.
3. Final payment: 30%, paid before we deliver your final approved publishing files.
Final print and eBook files are released once all payments due have been made.
Cancelling before work starts
You can cancel at any time before work starts by emailing us. We will refund 100% of your deposit. There is no booking or cancellation fee.
Cancelling after work has started
You can cancel at any time. You pay only for work completed up to the date you cancel, plus any reasonable costs that were disclosed to you in advance, such as third-party fees we have already paid on your behalf.
We refund any remaining amount you have paid that you are entitled to have returned, and we give you all completed work you have paid for, such as an assessment report, edited manuscript or design files.
Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law always take priority over this section.
Revisions
Each package includes the revision rounds listed above: 1 for Essentials, 2 for Complete and 3 for Signature. Individual services include the revision rounds stated in your agreement.
Revisions must stay within the agreed project scope. Major rewrites, a new or substantially changed manuscript, or other significant changes outside the scope may attract additional charges. We will always quote these in writing and get your approval before doing the work.
Your part
We rely on you to supply complete files and to give feedback and approvals on time. If we are waiting on you, timelines move accordingly. If a project is paused for more than [number] days without contact, we may close it and treat it as cancelled under this policy, after letting you know in writing first.
eBook formats
Where eBook conversion is included in your package, we deliver your eBook in both EPUB and PDF. EPUB is the main format for eBook retailers. PDF is supplied for compatible uses and direct downloads. Where a distinct published format needs its own ISBN, we assign one.
ISBNs and publisher details
Life Reclaimed Publishing buys ISBNs from the Australian ISBN Agency (Thorpe-Bowker) and assigns them to books for which it holds the necessary publishing rights.
For books published under our imprint, Life Reclaimed Publishing is listed as the publisher. Your copyright ownership, publishing rights, licensing, royalties and how the arrangement can be ended are set out in a separate author publishing agreement.
Third-party platforms
Distribution assistance with Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Draft2Digital and similar services depends on their rules and approval. We set up your listings with care, but we cannot guarantee that a platform accepts a title, or guarantee sales, rankings or reviews.
Fees charged by these platforms or by printers are separate unless your agreement says they are included.
Copyright and confidentiality
You keep the copyright in your manuscript unless your author publishing agreement says otherwise. We keep your manuscript confidential and use it only to provide your services.
We may show your book cover in our portfolio unless you ask us not to.
Refunds and problems with our work
Our services come with guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law: they must be provided with due care and skill, be fit for any purpose you told us about, and be completed within a reasonable time.
If something is not right, please tell us and we will fix it. If a service has a major problem, you can cancel it and get a refund for the unused portion, or ask for compensation for the drop in value. You can also be compensated for other reasonably foreseeable loss caused by a problem with our services.
We do not ordinarily refund work that has been delivered as agreed and approved by you, where the only reason is a change of mind or a decision not to publish. This never limits your statutory rights.
